Ref 23/84Price £8,500.00

Ex J. G. Brooker, SCBI 33, no. 1025, collection dispersed from 1978. This distinctive early reverse type, an oval garnished shield with CR either side (Besly 4), is extremely rare and is paired with the extremely rare large Oxford style bust (Besly B) and the standard Exeter bust (Besly C). There are believed to be only four examples known with this reverse type. Besly records one example of the die combination, B-4, the British Museum specimen but there is another in a private collection and he records only two of this die pairing, C-4, those in the British Museum and Brooker collections.
